Operation Sea LionOperation Sea Lion was Hitler's hastily devised strategy for the invasion of Great Britain after the British refused his armistice. The Operation was designed reluctantly by General Göring of the Luftwaffe and General Raeder of the German Navy. Hitler forced them to develop a quick strategy, which was not planned thoroughly because Hitler thought the British would surrender early in the battle. This shortcoming would be Hitler's downfall, for Britain fought bravely.
"Hitler wanted to make peace with Britain, he didn't really want to conquer Britain. In fact the plans for Operation Sea Lion, the invasion of Britain, weren't very detailed. It was a very forlorn hope. Hitler really wanted Britain to sue for peace. He would've granted it. Hitler felt if he conquered Britain the only outcome of that would be that Britain's Empire would be divided up."
